OVER 100 ART CHAIRS CREATED FOR REGION-WIDE EVENT

To Benefit Arts Education Funds and Arts Council
Over 100 Art Chairs have been created by area artists for CHAIRish the ARTS, a region-wide public art event to support three arts education funds and the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council.

“We have art chairs that are painted, sculpted, reconstructed from bicycles, and car parts. There is a bejeweled chair, and chairs made of glass, clay, wire, wood, and hand woven textiles. It’s unbelievable the level of creativity and imagination that artists have brought to this project. There are functional, decorative garden benches, children’s chairs, stools, rocking chairs, lawn chairs, as well as chairs that are sculpted and/or make a statement as art chairs,” stated Amy Wynn, Executive Director of the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council which is organizing the project.

Starting August 8, CHAIRish the ARTS maps were made available at art chair display sites and other locations so that the public are able to find their way on a “Tour de Chair” and discover the project’s various art chairs. Art Chair display sites are located throughout the region at various cultural institutions and businesses, and are indicated both on the map and at chairishthearts.org starting August 8. The Tour de Chair will encourage people to find as many art chairs as possible and answer chair trivia questions at each display location. Those who submit their Tour de Chair entry forms can then be entered into the prize drawings to be held at the auction in October. Prizes include tickets to area theatres and festivals, dinning and gift certificates, an Ovation Guitar, a Magic Fluke Ukulele, a Taste of Northwest Connecticut basket, to name a few.
